How do I get a federal dollar for dollar tax credit?
All individual taxpayers are entitled to a dollar for dollar federal tax credit of up to $1,700 annually when contributing to a qualified Scholarship Granting Organization that adheres to all applicable requirements.

What is the difference between this tax credit vs. making a donation to a tax-deductible organization?
Donations made under a general tax deduction are excluded from the total taxable income. In this program, the donation directly replaces tax payments on a dollar-for-dollar basis.

When does the dollar for dollar tax credit start?
Tax year starting January 1st 2027 is the earliest that donations will be eligible for the dollar for dollar tax credit.

Can I earmark my donation for a specific student?
No, earmarking for specific students is prohibited by law.

Can I earmark my donation for a specific Yeshiva?
Yes. There are no explicit provisions in the law prohibiting such action. However, we anticipate additional legal guidance on this matter. We will provide updates as more information becomes available.

My spouse and I are both taxpayers and we file jointly. Are we both eligible?

Can I get a double credit by claiming a state credit in addition to the federal one?
No, double tax credits are not permitted.

We are pending 501(c)(3) status. We anticipate approval before the program begins.

Can a corporate entity get this tax credit?
No. However, corporate entities can still donate and receive a standard tax deduction.

What are the qualification requirements?

As soon as practical after the law goes into effect on January 1st, 2027.

What states are you operating in?
We anticipate to register in every one of the 50 states that selects to participate in the program.

How do I know if my state has elected to participate?
Updates will be shared as states finalize their selections.

Am I guaranteed a grant?
No. There is no guarantee your application will be approved. Our approval process adheres to all relevant laws.

What can grant funds be used for?
Grant funds can be used for the following:

expenses for tuition, fees, academic tutoring, special needs services in the case of a special needs student, books, supplies, and other equipment which are incurred in connection with the enrollment or attendance of an elementary or secondary school student at a public, private, or religious school,

expenses for room and board, uniforms, transportation, and supplementary items and services (including extended day programs) which are required or provided by a public, private, or religious school in connection with such enrollment or attendance, and

expenses for the purchase of any computer technology or equipment or Internet access and related services, if such technology, equipment, or services are to be used by the student during any of the years the student is in school.

How do I check my income eligibility?
Student must be a member of a household with an income which, for the calendar year prior to the date of the application for a scholarship, is not greater than 300 percent of the area median gross income.
The area median gross income for your area can be found here:

That number should be multiplied by 3 to find the maximum qualifying income.
For example:
In 2025, the median household income in New York State is $110,200. Therefore, a household must have an income of less than $330,600 to qualify.
